The attributes, or character traits, are values for a lifelong continuum of thinking, doing, being – a long-term vision of education that is shared by our school, you and our students.
Let us consider this week's attribute:
Risk-Taker: I have a go. I give it a try. I always try new things so I may know how things are done.
We approach unfamiliar situations and uncertainty with courage and forethought, and have the independence of spirit to explore new roles, ideas and strategies. We are brave and articulate in defending our beliefs.
- If your child is feeling uneasy about trying something, encourage them to attempt it, and then reflect on both, whether they liked the activity, and how it felt to try something new.
- Be careful to explain to your child the difference between being a risk-taker by trying new things and doing dangerous things. IB has offered swapping risk-taker with courageous and has left the decision up to schools.
