What if, instead of spending money on clothes that your kid is going to wear out in a week, you could find what you needed at school for free? What if, when your kid lost her coat, there was a place to get one right at school? What if you could pass on your gently used kid's clothes without having to make an extra trip? That's what the Unshop is all about. It takes the tradition of parents sharing what they no longer need...and makes it school wide.
So...the Unshop is for poor people?

The Unshop is for everyone. We can all be thoughtful about our consumption when it comes to clothing. The Unshop is a sustainability initiative. Taking advantage of the Unshop, regardless of whether you have money to spend on clothing, is a great opportunity to teach kids about social responsibility.
How it works
Donate: Families donate gently used clothing (no holes or stains, please) in sizes appropriate for Rox El kids. Donations can be dropped off with Ms. Alexander in the Media Center during school hours. What we especially need right now*:
Request: If you need specific things and can't make it in, use this form to place your request. Delivery options include: Send home with my child, pick up at school, or deliver to my home. What about clothes that are not appropriate for the Unshop? Adult sizes: We don't mind adult sizes. Families may want them, and some kids wear large sizes. But we are mostly looking for kid's clothes. Holes and stains: Most places (Goodwill, etc.) expect clothing to be in good condition, so what do we do with our rags? Planet Aid boxes are an exception: They will take anything and there are several in our district. Find a box here and never put clothing in the trash again. Questions? Email us at unshoproxel@gmail.com *NEW underwear and socks are always welcome. This is one place where new is better than used... |
